13 years ago I had a similar thing with ASR light coming on. It was accompanied by a sort of, far off drumming noise that stopped when the ASR light came on. The car was under MB warranty at the time and MB bled the brake system several times and the problem never recurred. They put it down to air in the system, I think.

Don't know if that's any use.
