not sure how much clearer i could've been the first time around:

"i.e. when it's 12:00 the big hand is on the 12, but the little hand reads like it's 12:20 or so. "

a) it's 12:00
b) big hand should be on 12, little hand should be on 12
c) however, my big hand is on 12, and the little hand READS like it's 12:20.

you get it? look at your clocks right now. if it's 4:20, or 4:30, or 4:40, is your little hand still resting directly on the 4?

obviously you guys haven't learned to tell time yet.
