Back in the 70's I left a friends house at 2 am and a City of Dallas Police helo followed me for 18 miles. It was so low at times I could read the words on the bottom of it. It stopped once and lit up a car wreck but then it caught up with me later.

A friend of mine that serviced their machine asked them if they ever just followed people at random and they told him when nothing was going on they would follow someone just for training reasons. They had to be airborne anyway.

I think they stopped this about 20 years ago due to the price of fuel.
