I would try to take some "slack" out of the line by pushing it from the inside clip down at the footwell... then i would pull the cluster...get my hand back there and unscrew the cable at the cluster.... then rescrew it..... before putting the cluster back i would drive to see if that helped... if not i think i would jack the car up....loosen the retaining screw and try to reseat it at the transmission.
clicking sounds like odometer.
