Approx seven years ago, I purchased a new receiver dryer, expansion valve and A/C compressor. I also had a hose shop make up new A/C hoses. I then installed the hoses and the new expansion valve. I then took the car to a mercedes benz trained mechanic with an ASE certification to install the receiver dryer and compressor and fill with oil and R12. Unfortunately, he installed an incorrect sized washer between a line and the compressor which resulted in all of the refrigerant leaking out.
So, I then took the car to another mechanic who discovered the wrong sized washer and installed the correct sized washer which resulted in the system holding vacuum. I then took the car to a shop specializing in auto A/C systems to have the R12 installed along with Polymax2 Maximum Performance Refrigerant Oil. The system has worked great up until about six months ago whereupon it stopped cooling.
When checking pressures last evening which turned in 240 high side and 90 low side, the A/C compressor sounded like a washing machine with ball bearings flying around inside! I'm thinking my problem is the cheap made in china compressor.... or the compressor clutch..
