If it's like my '90 560 SEL, you've gotta remove the two screws at the front bottom of the storage container (i.e. below where the wooden accordion cover clicked in to the lock. Then you take out the entire storage unit. There are some screws which secure the plastic sides of the container; remove those, and you will then be able to slide the accordion cover out.

FWIW, I repaired mine, and it works great. The wood pieces are simply glued to a fabric backing. I literally used Superglue and reattached the wood pieces (very closely together) to the fabric. This then fits into a slide which extends the bottom of the storage unit. This will be apparent when you take it apart. Either way, this will be necessary for you whether you repair or replace.
