I swapped in a 4-spd into our 85 300D. the wiring was very simple. there is a reverse switch on the 4-spd manual shifter that has a wire with a plug.
The NSS has 4 wires, 2 for start and 2 for the reverse lights. the wires come through a grommet to the right of the fuel feed peddle, and connect to the plug connection at the top of the carpet panel to the right of the drivers knee.
Remove this plug and discard the NSS assy.
The wire from the manual shifter reverse switch now plugs into this plug above the carpet panel.
Looking at my notes when I did the swap, the 240 reverse plug with the back cover off... the side with the alignment pin hole will be black/yellow stripe and grey/yellow stripe. The other 2 pins will be purple/white stripe and a purple wire. these 2 purple pins will have a wire soldered to connect them.
These two soldered connected pins do the same function as the NSS did when it was in the start position.
I don`t have a 5-spd shifter to look at, but the reverse shift switch should be the same.
Hope I wasn`t confusing in my description.
The NSS grommet, I degreased it, reinserted it and filled the hole with RTV.
