when I removed mine, I just cut a scrap piece of iron bar off, and used a bench grinder to narrow down one edge of it enough to fit the slot, kind of like a giant screwdriver tip. grabbed the "tool" with visegrip pliers and Bob's your uncle.

of course, I understand that not everyone has cutoff saws and bench grinders laying about, but I'm certain most of us can improvise.
