I was in the 'gifted program' until grade seven. My folks moved so of course I moved with them.

While in the program I never noticed any difference in the schooling. All of my classmates were also considered gifted, so everyone just seemed normal.

After I moved the teachers at the new school did not know what to make of me. Some would go out of their way to show that I was not so smart, and one of them really became enraged when I told her that in twenty years I would be the one calling the shots in the school district and she might want to consider that. (Actually, as an adult, I worked with some guys to get them elected to the school board. Out of the five members of the Board three of them were elected due to my help and backing.)

High School was not much better. My Counselor suggested I drop out of school since I didn't seem to be learning much. I sent him an invitation to my graduation from University and heard from another Teacher there that he still hated me. (It's good to know you have made a difference in someone's life.)

When I was placed in a job at BIG oil it was like going back to the fifth grade. Everything was rather easy and all of my co-workers were far above average in the smarts. The fact that we got to play with real money was also nice since it really is a great way to keep score.

But being 'gifted' is not all fun and games, and when I speak to gifted kids todays I warn them take the world in stride since at least 98% of the people out there are dumber then they are.
