Sender Questions OM602

You are looking at MB part number 0075425717; it's on the left side of the IM of my 91 300D. The EPC simply calls it SENDER UNIT, CHARGE AIR DISTRIBUTOR LINE. One parts supplier calls it Turbo Boost Pressure Sensor to Pre-Glow System.

What does that mean? What exactly does it do?

And why do I have it on my 91 300D but not my 92 300D?

The one on my 91 was really clogged up....so I cleaned it out.

Just trying to learn more about my cars....thanks.
