Concerning the Movie what it reminds Me of is that Criminals are less likely to do something that is not directly for their own benefit than what I am generically going to say is a Decent Person.
Like the People who came to the aid of the SUV Diver attacked by the Bikers.
Decent People are more likely to and often do take a risk even when it is not to their own benefit to do so.
Criminals look at the odds verses the gains. If the odds are not in their favor the don't act or leave the scene; assuming they are Sober.
Clearly the odds were not in favor of someone helping the SUV Driver.

OK. Chalk up one for the good guys. Now ask yourself, how many bad deeds are being done every second and see if the good outweighs the bad. It's not to say you cannot hit a triple 6 on 3 dice but the odds are against you getting it. If you want to bet your money on it, go for it. I'll bet against.
