That is a PITA! I had one snap on me when I was trying to take off some over-torqued lug nuts with my breaker bar. The adapter was a Northern Tool brand. For whatever reason, I could not find my Proto adapter that day. I have since bought a set of 1/2" impact sockets and a better impact driver.

I can't dispute the quality of my grandfather's Proto tools or the unexpected durability of the Husky socket set I bought. I have seen some cheap trash for sockets but I have to admit that I am shocked how well built the Husky kit I got from Home Depot is. I use these sockets on my impact to take off bolts that are very highly torqued. I break adapters before the sockets budge. I think I was jumping on the 1/2" breaker bar with a Husky 17mm 3/8" socket when the adapter broke. I was completely expecting the breaker bar head to snap.
