The price of the tools to rebuild that unit is $1000? Maybe if you buy OEM MB units. There are plenty of aftermarket units that work fine, biggest issue will be compressing the springs to remove the clutch piston so you can replace the lip seals and orings. The rebuild kit itself will be between $200-400, depending on what all you need.
Hell, a friendly local shop may compress the stuff with their tool for a modest fee.
I have no idea where you can have a trans removed and installed for $200 anymore. That barely covers two hours of labor here in Texas. I can assure you it takes more than to hours to drop a trans.
Either way, $5000 is comical for a reman unit. Last I heard a MB reman unit was about $2300.
