Problem finally repeated itself today. Cracked the rear line fitting on the MC and got the spurt of pressurized fluid. Just like Diesel911 predicted -- thanks for the tip! So I'll put in a new MC. The parking brake looks OK, but I do need to adjust it. I'll also need to put new pads in the rear calipers. Fluid change too. Is there an advantage to DoT 4 over the old DoT 3 I had been using?
