This is quite simple to achieve.

For many parts including 1170520631 google will tell you what it is. For example 1170520631 is a chain tensioner for a M117 engine.

However, 'cos you are in the US of A you can get EPC for free - bang in your part number and get a list of vehicles it was used on.

Many parts will also start with 123 or 126 or 107 for example which will often indicate body type rather than 117 for an engine type.
