The missing 2.5 litres is a bit of a concern!

The amount you put back in is close to the specified 7.9 litres for a 722.0 mated to a V8 engine (specified in maintenance manual)

Just to be sure => Are you checking the level with the engine running at operating temperature etc?

I've never even seen your engine before in real life so all I can do is send you the following links.

Removal and installation of your distributor =>

http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/outside/11883/PROGRAM/Engine/107/M117_45/075-510.pdf

Timing check =>

If the advance / retard functionality of the engine "management system" isn't working correctly then you would indeed have an under powered engine at higher revs.

However.I notices that with the ignition on..the fuel pump never ran.it only ran as I deflected the metering plate. Then I could see fuel coming through the injectors.

But when I removed the blue air flow sensor connections.I could hear the fuele pumps running .

Any thoughts ?
