Newer phones don't always play nice with older devices. My very early Bluetooth head unit gave some phones trouble (including my G2) until I updated the Bluetooth dongle.
I've paired my new G4 with a bunch of devices (aforementioned head unit, two Jabra VoIP headsets, my laptop, two desktops, my old G2, two sets of headphones, and three rental cars) without any trouble.
