I've found that while the W124.W126 era cars are made from high quality material. That does not necessarily translate to reliable or durable. The interior in my W210's have held up much better then any earlier Mercedes that I've owned and the cars that have been toyota reliable (nothing ever seems to break). By contrast, while the W126's feel like bank vaults, they suffer from cracks and creaks in the leather , wood and plastic and have tended to nickel and dime me on a weekly bases.
Every new Mercedes is better then the old one, that's progress.
