I will let someone that owns a 240D speak on the details.
the part that pivots on the Fire Wall (Bell Crank, and older ones may differ from ones on newer models) get old and have issues. But off hand it looks stock.
In General all of the linkage rods that have adjustments have specific lengths that are listed in the service manual (at least they were on my 84 300D).
When I got my car it was scay slow in acceleration but once it got up to speed ran OK.
What I found was the linkage rod adjustments were so sloppy the Throttle Lever on the Fuel Injection Pump was not being pushed far enough. I picked a rod that had an adjustment and made it longer and that cured it.
Later when I got the Service Manual and found the rods had specific lengths I re-did the adjusments.
