You get some lowering with a spring pad that has fewer nubs. It may not make much difference because the old pads are compressed. I remember measuring the difference between new 2-nib and old 4-nib for either the 84 or 85 SD and it wasn't much.

I also remember that it doesn't change suspension geometry but research to confirm.
