Not much talk about "how" they go about optimizing a particular instrument. In theory, it is possible, but only with predominantly-acoustical instruments...factor in electronic amplification, and all that goes out the window. They concur this in the faq section.

As a musician (of several instruments), I have found that the skill level of the musician coupled with the room acoustics are more crucial parameters in the outcome of the music, than "instrument optimization".

Anyone that would find this beneficial would have to already be pretty skilled in hearing musical nuances. So I would liken it to say how "oxygen-free braided copper speaker cables" would sound over typical Radio-Shack zip cord...
