Not strictly true, before Forced Induction was banned from all the Mercedes forums (a move I highly support) he had installed a VNT turbo on his otherwise stock engine and saw a performance improvement on the dyno from it. Not only did it of course spool faster, but because of the more efficient design it heated the air less and flowed more, at least I think thats the theory as to the increased power from it (it was a long time ago). There was some talk on the STD forum that the stock turbos are restrictive on the top end even on a stock car.
At any rate, if the junk yard turbo is cheap, I'd grab it. At least then you can pull it apart, and maybe even rebuild it so that you can swap it into you current ride without any down time.
