You know it’s the cylinder that squeaks, not the hinge? Maybe squirt lithium grease liberally into the hinge area first.

Getting to the cylinder is a PITA. Remove the seat belt anchor, remove the roller blind divider hook, pry off the headliner trim that goes across upper hatch opening sill, pry off the headliner trim that follows the cargo area side window down to the side panel. Putting that last piece back requires pushing the piece in two directions at the same time to get all the tabs and clips seated.

The cylinder rod is shrouded in a rubber boot so it has to come off for cleaning and lubricating. It’s held with the same style clips as the hood supports.

Don’t forget to set the hatch on a ladder or similar support if/when you detach the cylinder. One won’t hold the hatch up.
