Harbor Freight Recalls Jack Stands That Could Suddenly Collapse - The Drive

Spread the word!!!
I didn't see anything on their web sight. Do you have a link.

I do have a set of Torin Big Red jack stands that had a problem that could cause a sudden collapse. I had these outdoors supporting a car for about 2 years. They got a bit stiff with rust and the roll pins rusted out allowing the handle to move without the pawl. One day I had the handle down in the locked position but the pawl was still slightly disengaged because the roll pin had sheared. When I was lowering the car onto the stand it fell down. That's when I discovered the problem. I took the stands apart and cleaned everything. I also replaced the roll pins with SS roll pins. Since then I have been using them with the secondary safety pin that is a feature of the Torin Big Red jack stand.

Torin is a different name brand than the Harbor freight Pittsburgh, but I suspect the same manufacturer.
