I didn't see anything on their web sight. Do you have a link.

I do have a set of Torin Big Red jack stands that had a problem that could cause a sudden collapse. I had these outdoors supporting a car for about 2 years. They got a bit stiff with rust and the roll pins rusted out allowing the handle to move without the pawl. One day I had the handle down in the locked position but the pawl was still slightly disengaged because the roll pin had sheared. When I was lowering the car onto the stand it fell down. That's when I discovered the problem. I took the stands apart and cleaned everything. I also replaced the roll pins with SS roll pins. Since then I have been using them with the secondary safety pin that is a feature of the Torin Big Red jack stand.

Torin is a different name brand than the Harbor freight Pittsburgh, but I suspect the same manufacturer.

They probably were not killing us at a fast enough pace with those Jack Stands, so on to plan B. None the less, thanks for the warning. I might just have a set of those here.

I wanted to add my experience of a HF jack. I got the cool Aluminum floor jack which I thought was awesome being so light. So one day in my driveway I go out and jack up my cars front end, forget why, and before I crawl under I think to myself; maybe I should put jack stands under it just in case. So I head to the garage to do that and BAM!!!!! I turn around and my car is down. The jack completely let loose and dropped it! Not leaked, or leaked fast, but flat out dropped it like a rock. Had I not made the jack stand decision I would've likely been under it... Since the jack looked fine physically I assume it the seal blew, but I didn't know they could blow like that.
Since then I used a cheap steel floor jack on my diff, trying to get it up high enough to get something under it, and the car slowly moved to one side and fell over on the ground. No harm but basically the jack offers little side support so over it went.
So not trusting jacks or stands, I wanted to get some ramps, which are either very thin sheet metal or plastic (wth?) and people are online posting pix of the plastic ones breaking. I also realized none would work since the body would hit long before the tires touched it. So I made some out of wood. I used 2x12 boards and five layers thick, the top being 14" long, the bottom 48", each with a 45 cut on the edge. Many deck screws connecting each to the next. Yes they're big but they won't collapse or fall over.

My friend has like a dozen sets of various HF jacks, no problems but he's returning them anyway. The story he heard is the ratcheting ones like Roncallo posted will release if the car moves back and forth enough times. As in it'll slowly, bit by bit, walk the catch out. I looked at it and can't see how, but maybe the bad ones are different. I dunno. Fyi...

i bought a snap-on YA-642 back in 1985 and still use it. rebuilt it once in 2011. i got another one that is a little older called an Ajax but looks almost identical.....it turns out the are both made by Lincoln......had that one rebuilt and use that as well. you can find them around for a couple hundred dollars, but well worth it
one of the best tool purchases i ever made

Incidentally if they find covid 19 in your blood after your car falls on your head they will count it as a covid 19 death on the books.

Thanks for the heads up. I just got back from returning mine. Got an in store gift card for 65 bucks.

I won't be buying any jackstands made in China again. I deliberatly bought the 6 ton ones instead of the 3 ton becuase I don't trust Chinese manufacturing and had no desire to have my 240D supported by the smaller ones. Ironic indeed. Only used them once so far when I had to do my front brakes.

Now I have to try and find decently manufactured ones.

Incidentally. When I walked thru the store I noticed there are NO jackstands on the shelves at all. Just a note saying "New Jack Stands coming soon".

For every one outside the US.
These Jacks were labelled Torin brand or Big Red.
Be careful what you buy or have stowed away in your garage.
Included in the overseas recalls are bottle jacks, floor jacks and various jackstands.

In recent times, because of government recalls, the company behind these jacks and Jackstands have lifted their game somewhat. You need to be careful if you have one bought a couple of years ago.
