I've seen German cars that have a small adjustable mirror mounted inside the car on the driver's side stuck on the dash next to the A pillar for the left side blind spot. Looks pretty ugly, but if your on the "bahn" at speed, I guess it's safter than turning to look.

I once considered those "racing" wide rear view mirrors, but decided I like my sun visors too much.
