Many years ago I had a small terrier run into the street and had it's hips run over by an Oldsmobile, shattering his hip and both rear legs like dry chicken bones ~ the Vet said it'd co$t in excess of $4,000.00 to begin, I asked isn't it possible to tape / cast him up and let him heal slowly ? .

I didn't much care if he couldn't run anymore, the $4K meant death to my little dog .

The Vet shook his head but did it and that little smelly noisy yapper lived another 15 years.....

You learn a lot about things like this when on a rural farm where there's no $ for the veterinarian .
