There are about five near miss, (some very near) disasters avoided in the last few months that the FAA is investigating in the US, and the incident in Hawaii where they only just managed to avoid the ocean by the skin of their teeth.

Unfortunately I fear it's only a matter of time before another disaster in the US airline industry.

And that's not to mention all the lithium ion batteries in consumer devies on board aircraft now. Spirit Airlines just avoided a disaster when one caught fire in an overhead bin.

Pilot acquaintance of mine who files for American is about to retire and says he will not fly in the US again. If he has to go anywhere he will drive or take a train if possible.

And internationally he will take a slow boat.
