wjm: heh, no I haven’t gotten around to getting the new horns. Anywho, no, the alarm uses a separate disc horn that is behind the drivers-side headlight. it does not use the horns that are behind the grille. I traced the wiring back from the "alarm horn" to the fuse box and couldn’t see much - it being wrapped up and all. I will look into the alarm control box (under the driver’s floor) in a day or so. But yes you are correct, the alarm is working, just without sound.
