Humm .."Those gizmos sorta-kinda look like the transmission pan bolts should go through them to spread out the clamping load when you tighten the pan bolts"

They defiantly look like there designed to spread out a load on something but the hole in them is threaded and I had put the bolts back in them which are not very long. I would say only about 4 or 5 mm of threads protrude. Are you saying there are smeller looking things on the auto trannys? There is of course no pan on my 4 spd box. I carry one around in each of my cars in case I run into someone that might have seen the critters before.
