And people wondered why I refused to buy a house in a newer neighbourhood with such controls. The misconception is that older neighbourhoods like mine will go to hell thanks to no controls. However, we still have to abide by municipal bylaws. Just not the often ridiculous rule book that these HOA's come up with. My neighbour just happens to have a tall flag pole and is proudly flying the Canadian flag. It's an unusual sight, but not an eyesore.
