Hello all...I tried a search of the archives, but didn't find anything that applied...so here goes.
The AM radio reception in my 99 300 diesel has become a problem. When stopped with the engine off, reception appears normal. When I insert key, about three seconds later, I hear a whistle and static, even if I don't turn the key. Turning key to on, without starting, noise is worse, with engine on, noise is also bad.
I see no sign that static/noise changes with engine RPM or that activating any particular electrical accessory changes things.
I do note that if I am closer to source of station, problem is less notable. FM seems fine as does Weather Band.
Not sure if this is enough to identify any obvious type of issue, but I would sincerely appreciate any input.
