Mitch,
Have you considered a 928? I think if you want speed and a damn good ride the 928 is perfect. I know the early ones had that ugly rear but in '87 Porsche face lifted the 928 which eliminated that problem. During its entire life span the 928 has been considered one of the best GT cars in the world if not the best. And if it's performance you want the 928 delivers. The '87 928S 4 has a 5 liter V-8 that makes a "adequate" 316 Bhp, 317 lb-ft of torque, and does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. At 60 mph in 5th the engine is working at 1850 rpm. With a top speed of 165 mph not even shiny new E55's or M5's can touch the 928S 4. Back in 1984 Road & Track did a world's fastest car comparison with Euro model in Germany and the 928S actually outdid the 911 Turbo with a top speed of 162.2 mph. And a 928 is a much easier car to live with then a 1980's 911 Turbo with quirky handling and "calm before the storm" turbo lag.
