a few ways to check

Hatterasguy,

2 years ago I had "SDL Fever" and wanted to find one in the worst way. I almost did. I had a lower budget than you and that was probably a mistake looking back. I ended up with a 210K car for $3500. I have about another $2000 in it and have driven it about 45K miles. It is no where near perfect but does run well now with a few more kinks and cosmetic things to fix.

With the usual caveats to check check check... try:

autotrader.com.. I just looked and there were 2 or 3 at about 100K - or claimed to be

ebay... lots of competition

lookup the major florida/texas newspapers online ( how I found mine) and monitor. Lots of retiree's. Mine was an estate sale and the son didn't value the car with 210K on it.

I know you are looking local, but perhaps a southern - potentially more rust free car would be worth a trip. I traded pictures by email. Local forums members may be able to verify it in person for you. Carfax used to have a bulk offer, I think I checked 20 or so cars on it.

Good luck! Let me know if you are still hitting Carolina Beach this spring.

Chuck
