I fully expect that you can buy the integral unit in the top picture (for $14 here at partsshop) remove the brushholder from the alternator and replace it with the integral brushholder/voltage regulator unit. Just tie the cable up out of the way.

I did this some years ago on my wifes '73 250. I fully expect that you can do the same thing on your car.
