Removing the seat back panel in the 300TD requires removing the screw that is centered at the bottom of the panel and then pulling down on the panel. The top of the panel is just shoved into the top. You may have to give it a tug to release it. Just 1 screw holds it at the bottom.
Is it the same in the CD I would think so. It was the same in the W126 and the 240D.
