While you are waiting, you can drain the coolant from the radiator and block, pull the intake manifold, and the exhaust manifolds. That is pretty straighforward, and should keep you busy for a while.
I used 3/8 hex-bit sockets with 6" bits (from KD). They work on the head bolts and are great for the intake stuff. For the head bolts, I used a 1/2 breaker bar with a 2 ' piece of pipe slipped over the end to provide better leverage.
