Diesel hood pad in a gasser??

I've "heard" that the diesel hood pad is a "better" pad that fits in the same place. More insulation, higher temperature rating, etc. Any opinions on the subject?

My old pad sort of dissolved in place. I used a vacuum cleaner wand to scrape it off the underside of the hood and collect the residue at the same time. I have an '87 W124. 260E to be precise.
