Here's an odd one:

The old 190e is pinging under load from standing starts. Some brands of fuel (all 91 octane) seem to help but ..... I decided to check the timing.

I found the timing is between the TDC mark and the 10 degree before mark. When I tried twisting the distributor to retard the timing it didn't make any difference. It continued to read at the same spot.

Am I missing something here?
