Sounds reasonable if you get a snug fit. You can also use some RTV around the outside of your vacuum line to help seal the patch if the ID is a little too large. Don't use any RTV on the inside of the rubber hose, though, or you're likely to plug the vacuum line. Sounds like it's time to replace that line, too. Good luck!
