Plastic Vacum line snaped

While replacing a glow plug, one of my plastic fuel lines snaped. No problem, i order the fuel line, eventually get the right one, and a month later i get the fuel line replaced. while installing the new fuel line, my old brittle plastic vacum line from the vacum pump to the air filter snaps. I'm in a hurry here, so does anyone see a problem with using a rubber fuel or vacum line if i can find one with the right Inside Diameter? i've got to get this thing back on the road.

this is on a 78 240d

Sounds reasonable if you get a snug fit. You can also use some RTV around the outside of your vacuum line to help seal the patch if the ID is a little too large. Don't use any RTV on the inside of the rubber hose, though, or you're likely to plug the vacuum line. Sounds like it's time to replace that line, too. Good luck!

On vacuum lines, any rubber hose that will not collapse when subjected to vacuum is ok.

Anybody have a source for that hard plastic vacuum line? The line to my fuel cutoff is spliced in two places, and the shutoff is erratic.

I broke the lines off of the check valve on mine..right by the brake booster (the hard POS line) Replaced it with some rigid 1/2 tubing and used hose barbs and a nifty 1/4 NPT push-lock to make my new connections..looks real clean..as for the ports on the check valve, just put a dribble of RTV over the holes and called it good. no leaks

Aren't these hard thin vacuum lines generally available from most auto supply stores?
