unlike the W123, the W124 was designed with offset-frontal collisions in mind and hence were tested this way. The offset frontal tests are specified in percent overlaps, with a smaller overlap figure meaning the collision forces are concentrated on a smaller area. A 100% overlap means a full-frontal collision.

The offset-frontal design actually started with the W126. The newest models have elliptical front bulkheads to further improve the distribution of forces in such collisions.
