Brake part/tire recommendations
Time for new brakes and tires on the '89 560SL AND the '88 300TE (wouldn't you know they all need replacement at the same time), the rotors are worn thin so I am prepping/planning for changeout. I have had good results from both Brembo and Zimmerman discs (2 ends of the price continuum) on my Volvos. However, because the '88 300TE is my daily commuter and NOT driven hard (aka performance type driving), I'm leaning toward the less expensive options for it. The SL will probably get the cross-drilled Zimm's unless I hear differently from you guys.
Anybody willing to weigh in with an opinion?
My biggest choice seems to be in the selection of brake pads. My experience w/PBR's (on Volvos) is that they wear quickly but I have not tried the Metal Masters. I want something reliable, long lasting and fade resistant for the wagon but I'm willing to go all out with the SL. Suggestions? I'll be ordering this week for installation over spring break (next week).
Tire choices are a can-o-worms, I know. I'm leaning toward Bridgestone Potenza 950's for the SL but something cheap (Kumho's?) for the wagon. Wet traction is the paramount concern for both cars (Atlanta environs) but I don't care about snow traction (accumulation only once every 5 years I can handle with whatever is on the car, even racing slicks, I learned to drive in the NE).
All opinions welcome.
