Brake part/tire recommendations

Time for new brakes and tires on the '89 560SL AND the '88 300TE (wouldn't you know they all need replacement at the same time), the rotors are worn thin so I am prepping/planning for changeout. I have had good results from both Brembo and Zimmerman discs (2 ends of the price continuum) on my Volvos. However, because the '88 300TE is my daily commuter and NOT driven hard (aka performance type driving), I'm leaning toward the less expensive options for it. The SL will probably get the cross-drilled Zimm's unless I hear differently from you guys.

Anybody willing to weigh in with an opinion?

My biggest choice seems to be in the selection of brake pads. My experience w/PBR's (on Volvos) is that they wear quickly but I have not tried the Metal Masters. I want something reliable, long lasting and fade resistant for the wagon but I'm willing to go all out with the SL. Suggestions? I'll be ordering this week for installation over spring break (next week).

Tire choices are a can-o-worms, I know. I'm leaning toward Bridgestone Potenza 950's for the SL but something cheap (Kumho's?) for the wagon. Wet traction is the paramount concern for both cars (Atlanta environs) but I don't care about snow traction (accumulation only once every 5 years I can handle with whatever is on the car, even racing slicks, I learned to drive in the NE).

All opinions welcome.

How about Textar for pads (if dust is not your #1 concern). Same OE performance.

Last time, I purchased Continental ContactPrimier Tires. Paid $400 (on the road price) for 4 tires . Way less expensive than the michelins They are rated A's in all catergories. Todate, have over 30+K miles. Impressions: remarkedly quiet highway and bad weather tires so far. My E320 is mostly a highway car. put in 15-18K miles/year.

I always use Textar pads, they perform well if you don't mind the dust. As for rotors, Zimmerman or Brembo are good, Balo is good as well.

As for tires, the only question I ever ask myself is which Michelin's to get.

I did pads and rotors recently-

The factory rotors were within a few dollars of the Balo's- so why even bother? I paid a few extra dollars for the textar yellow box pads because I like the braking feel they produce.

They are not dust free... and were not intended to be racetrack pads...

I used ATE brake pad or Textar brake pad for my 190E... Both are good as OE one.... I never try Zimmermann drilled rotors on MB before, but i used those on my VW Passat--- excellent rotors. I think that i will use Zimmermann drilled rotor on my 190E and C220 to increase the brake performance.

Tires on MB--- Michelin is my first choice for sure..

I've got the RE950's on all three of my rides. Love them. Have had them to the track for a day on the 300TE. Very predictable on the ragged edge. The instructor was impressed too. I am not so sure they have a high enough speed rating for the 560 though they do have V and W in some sizes. Do a search, you will find good stuff.

I go with a "plus 0" size increase to 205/60/15 -- same as the 300E Sportline. In the RE950 you get an extra half inch width and some other benefits like higher load rating (slightly stiffer) -- not all carcasses give a traction with in this incremental change so need to check the specs.

Brakes, I vote OE or Textar Yellow Box Pads or Balo Rotors.
