Don't kid yourself, Mecedes Benz made a fortune on the 107. There are more parts and body panels on a 300 E or even a 190 E, and with little or no difference with all electricals and mechanicals with exception of a v-8. Basically they all use the same stuff, yet the 107 was $20,000 or more, than the 190 E!
It would be the least MB could do, and they didn't want to get sued by the many lawyers that bought them brand new!
