help! 1979 450sl

I need someone to tell me where to find web site for winshield that needs replacement for this car, i 'am having no luck...
Last ? I took this car down to dealership to have recall on subframe replaced and was told it would cost me about $500.00 due to parts that need to be replaced to get to subframe part, apparent bushings are the reason for charges, does this sound right? I thought if it is a recall they do work for free.....
Anyone have info..
Thanks, Stacy

Try a different dealer or service bay...

I thought recalled cars were supposed to have the repairs paid for completely by the dealer... the world really is crapping out is it not?

The $500 price tag is of interest to me as well. I have gotten a recall for the same thing on my 1975 and have not taken it in yet. I remember talk of this some time ago, on this site, and I was under the impression that it should not cost anything. I am sure some people in the know will respond to clear this up.

ON USA versions that recall should not cost a dime!!!!

However if you need new subframe mounts & lower/upper control arm mounts(worn out rubber parts) so that the alignment can be done correctly you would have to pay for those worn out parts! They can do the recall w/o replaceing those parts BUT since all of that is apart then the labor is very low(at least it should be!)

Since that is a RECALL you can call MB at 1-800-367-6372 OR NHTSA at 888-327-4236 MB campaign number was 85-1211-99

Thanks for the info Doc, that was kind of the way I thought it would be. It should be worth something to get things fixed up after all the years. I think we should also be proud that MB will even do a recall after all those years, no other car company would.

Don't kid yourself, Mecedes Benz made a fortune on the 107. There are more parts and body panels on a 300 E or even a 190 E, and with little or no difference with all electricals and mechanicals with exception of a v-8. Basically they all use the same stuff, yet the 107 was $20,000 or more, than the 190 E!

It would be the least MB could do, and they didn't want to get sued by the many lawyers that bought them brand new!

Wink

The R107 SL was the longest running model in recent history! (1972-1989 here in the USA)
Designed in the 60's it shared suspension with the W114/115 chassis. OTHER than that very few parts were shared! According to "MB" they didn't break even on that chassis until 1984!!!!

I never really liked driving the car as I am too tall to be comfortable unless the top was down! BUT they were a very good car & still can get the job done!
