I just did this today.

According to the owners manual, here is what you have to do.

1. Turn the ignition key onto postion 2

2. Simultaneously press the remote of the garage door opener and the corresponding homelink button at the same time. The instructions say to have the original remote 2-5 inches from the mirror. There is an amber led on the mirror that will first blink slow, and then fast. Once it blinks fast, that is the confirmation that the code is learned. You can then let go of the buttons.

Now some garage remotes use rolling codes, i.e. they modify the code for every open so someone cant get the frequency, replicate it and open your garage. You have to train the opener to use the homelink remote in those cases.

Mercedes offers real time telephone support for this procedure. Its an option on their customer service phone number. 1-800-FOR-MERC, call them and they will walk you through it if you cant get it to work.
