Can someone tell me how to program the home link controls in the mirror of a 2000 C-Class. TIA!

I just did this today.

According to the owners manual, here is what you have to do.

1. Turn the ignition key onto postion 2

2. Simultaneously press the remote of the garage door opener and the corresponding homelink button at the same time. The instructions say to have the original remote 2-5 inches from the mirror. There is an amber led on the mirror that will first blink slow, and then fast. Once it blinks fast, that is the confirmation that the code is learned. You can then let go of the buttons.

Now some garage remotes use rolling codes, i.e. they modify the code for every open so someone cant get the frequency, replicate it and open your garage. You have to train the opener to use the homelink remote in those cases.

Mercedes offers real time telephone support for this procedure. Its an option on their customer service phone number. 1-800-FOR-MERC, call them and they will walk you through it if you cant get it to work.

HOMELINK systems on MB's after 1998 are different from the system that the 1996-97 cars HAD!!
Homelink systems (rolling code) require you to program the OPENER at your house to the signal coming from the sender in the car! ALSO the opener at your house MUST be made after 1996 & have rolling code style of opener!

From the homelink site:

1. For first time training, press and hold the two outer HomeLink buttons, releasing only when the HomeLink indicator light begins to flash after 20 seconds. (Do not perform this step when training the additional HomeLink buttons.)
2.

Position the hand-held transmitter 1-3 inches away from the HomeLink surface (located on your visor), keeping the HomeLink indicator light in view.
3.

Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the desired HomeLink button and hand held transmitter button. DO NOT release until the HomeLink indicator light flashes slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. (The rapid flashing indicates successful training.)

Rolling Code openers have to learn the cars signal. Fixed codes ones do not, the car needs to learn the frequency of your remote.

Not true at all...

Want me to scan the programming instructions of my owners manual. I think the 98+ ones have the ability to do rolling code as well.

I have an early 90s crafstman opener. I taught the mirror to open it using the remote. Works perfectly.

The owners manual addresses both scenarios.
