It sounds like the gears on the motor are stripped. Although this could be the wrong diagnosis since I'm not sure how the manual closing mechanism works. If the gear unit is stripped it is a relatively easy DIY job. You'll need to locate a new gear unit or motor/gear unit from eBay, silverstar recycling, Potomac German Auto, or other junk yard/salvage shop.
