I assume that the trans was OK before?

It sounds to me like either something is very wrong with the filter that you installed or you did not refill with enough fluid or that you have too much fluid.

On my complete fluid changes, I have always added about 2/3 of the capacity initially, started the engine, and let it idle to fill the converter, moving the shifter several times between P, D, and R as it warms up. Then I top it off.

And I have never had a problem like this.
